Our mission & vision

Our mission

To support people living with and beyond cancer by improving physical health, mental wellbeing, and social connection through tailored, non-medical programmes.

We provide cancer-specific exercise, music, and peer-support initiatives that empower individuals to rebuild strength, confidence, and joy from diagnosis onwards.

Through our holistic approach, we help reduce pressure on the NHS, enhance recovery and survivorship outcomes, and ensure that no one’s potential is limited by their diagnosis.

Our vision

To become a national model for community-based, non-clinical cancer care that complements NHS provision and transforms recovery after cancer.

We aim to create thriving, connected communities where every person affected by cancer is supported to live well, feel understood, and truly thrive beyond treatment.

How we deliver our mission

We bring our mission to life through programmes that rebuild strength, confidence, and connection. From specialist exercise and music to peer support and partnerships with the NHS, every part of what we do helps people live well with and beyond cancer.

Specialist exercise programmes

Our CUFITTER™ cancer-specific gym helps people prepare for, live through, and recover from treatment. Led by Cancer Exercise Specialists, every class builds strength, confidence, and independence — improving recovery and long-term wellbeing.

The power of music and connection

Through our OutSingCancer choir, members experience the physical and emotional benefits of singing together. Music restores confidence, lifts spirits, and builds meaningful friendships within a supportive community.

Emotional and social support

Our peer groups offer safe, welcoming spaces to connect and share experiences. From CU Life Balance for younger adults to OutPlantCancer, our projects help members rediscover normality and belonging.

Working hand in hand with the NHS

We collaborate with healthcare professionals to bridge the gap between hospital care and community recovery. Our programmes align with NHS England’s Living With and Beyond Cancer framework to complement clinical treatment and ease system pressure.

Built on evidence and experience

Every programme is grounded in research, safety, and measurable results. Over 80% of members report improved strength and confidence within 12 weeks, while 70% experience better mental wellbeing and reduced fatigue.

Community at the core

Cancer United is powered by people — members, volunteers, and partners all working together to support those affected by cancer. Through shared experiences, we’re proving recovery can be active, social, and full of hope.

Together, we’re changing what life after cancer looks like.

Whether you’re living with cancer, supporting someone who is, or working within healthcare — there’s a place for you in our community.
