Our impact
Our four pillars of support…
Transforming lives through community support
At Cancer United, we believe nobody should face cancer without support. Our mission is simple but powerful: to support people living with and beyond cancer by improving physical health, mental wellbeing, and social connection through tailored, non-medical programmes.
We know this approach has impact and benefits — not merely because our members tell us, but because the evidence proves it. Through Cancer United’s own impact assessments and respected academic research, we’ve seen how community‑based support can transform recovery, wellbeing, and quality of life.
Emotional wellbeing and social connection
Cancer can bring anxiety, stress, and isolation. Evidence from the NHS Long Term Plan shows that up to 10% of patients experience severe anxiety or depression after diagnosis, rising to 50% for those with recurrence.
Peer support groups, like those offered by Cancer United, are proven to reduce these burdens by helping people feel understood and less alone.
Community‑based psychosocial support has also been shown to improve resilience, reduce non‑medical GP visits, and enhance overall wellbeing.
The real impact?
Our members tell us:
report improved fitness and wellbeing through our programmes
feel more hopeful about their future
value the friendships formed through our community
These aren’t just statistics
— They represent lives transformed, confidence rebuilt, and futures reclaimed, and are based on self‑reported outcomes from 50% of CUFITTER™ members completing our annual impact survey in 2024.
Stronger together: building health, hope, and connection beyond cancer
Together, we are proving that tailored exercise, emotional support, and social connection can change the cancer journey for the better — and the evidence backs it up.
