If you are running or walking with us this Sunday then please take a look at the below information.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ THIS
With the 2026 OUTRUNCANCER Angmering event approaching we felt it was a good time to drop you all a quick email with some important information regarding the day. We are very excited about our new venue and course, with single laps courses for both 5K and 10K.
If you have taken part in our event before please note the CHANGE OF START AND FINISH VENUE.
Location
The World’s End, Patching
Arundel Road
BN13 3UQ
Timing
The 5K run, 10K run and the 5K and 10K walks will set off a couple of minutes apart starting at 08:30. There will be a short safety briefing before each event. This briefing is to ensure your safety so please pay attention to it. After the briefing we will move to the start line. To avoid crowding and minimise overtaking at the start we ask that you line up at the start with the runners expecting to be among the quickest at the front.
If you are taking park with your dog consider where it is most sensible for you to position yourself at the start line. There is a world of difference between a keen cani-cross trained dog who is eager to race and a dog who loves spending time in the countryside enjoying the surroundings with their owner.
Registration
Registration opens at 7:30am. Running numbers will be ready for you to collect. There will be a place for you to leave bags at your own risk or consider leaving bags in your car if possible. Please allow time to register. If you know of any friends or family who are planning on entering on the day, please do share this communication with them. Registration on the day is £20 by cash or card.
If you have entered the 10k and are not sure about your ability to run it then please do contact us or speak with the registration team when you arrive. We will change you to the 5k. It is important that we know the distance you have completed as it will affect the results and placings.
Toilets
The World’s End will be open before the run and have generously allowed us to use their facilities.
Weather
It’s a bit too far ahead for an accurate forecast but there are currently only one or two muddy patches.
The Course
Like many events we are trying to do our bit for the environment and encourage all participants to bring their own water. There will be three water stations on the 10K course and one on the 5K course. They will have paper cups and the marshals will be only too happy to refill your own bottles should you require it. If you do take a cup of water then there will be black sacks available at the aid station for you to dispose of any used cups. All marshals around the course will also have a black sack and we would ask if you could dispose of any litter such as bottles and gel wrappers with them so that we can leave the Angmering woods as we found them.
The course will be clearly marked, please follow the course signage carefully and adhere to the guidance from marshals.
Ther are 2 places where the course splits between the 5K and 10K routes, the first is at the first water station the second is towards the end of the route where a footpath heading south across an open field towards Patching Church will be followed for the 5K. There will be marshals to help keep you on track and there will be clear signposts.
Terrain
Both routes are on mixed terrain ranging from tarmac lane to possibly muddy woodland tracks. It is almost certain that at some point you will wish you had worn different shoes! Routes set out and return along France Lane, the road is not closed though traffic is expected to be light at this time of day.
There is a stile to cross just past Patching Church, about ¾ of a mile from the start. It is likely that there will be a bottleneck here. Please be patient and courteous to each other if you get caught up in a queue for the stile. If you are likely to struggle to climb it please wait for a suitable gap and seek help from the marshal there. The route will also narrow to a single file track shortly after the stile. This is only for about 40m, we will be out on the course in the week ahead of the event to cut back the worst of the undergrowth.
There is farmland and there is currently livestock (sheep) in some of the fields you will cross. It is extremely important that gates are closed after you have gone through, resist the urge to be polite and leave them open even if you think there is someone close behind you! Hopefully there will be marshals at any gates, but this may not be possible.
To complete the obstacle course there is a kissing gate to traverse at about 4 miles in (10K route only).
Treat your marshals with courtesy at all times. They are freely giving up their time to ensure your safety on the run and this event could not go ahead without their generosity.
After you have crossed the finish line please stay in order as you go through the finish funnel, your race number will be noted by the finish line team so make sure it is visible on the FRONT of your top. Collect your reward for completing the course from our finish line team. There will be water available at the finish line.
Headphones
We would prefer that you do not wear headphones at this event as there are a number of places where it is essential that you can hear the marshal’s instructions. Sections of these routes are on open roads, it is essential that you remain aware of your surroundings. If you cannot bear to run without them then we recommend the use of the bone conductor type, or keeping the volume low and just wear one.
Parking
Please arrive in plenty of time to park. There is parking along the main Arundel Road, outside the pub.
Refreshments – Post Run
There will be tea and coffee and bacon rolls (or their equivalent) to purchase at the finish. The World’s End will be open and will be selling breakfast rolls for those who would like them.
Dogs
Whilst we welcome dogs to join us on the course, we have been advised there have been cases of Alabama Rot in the local area in the past. As dog owners you will no doubt be aware of this, please consider this carefully before bringing your dog with you. If you do bring a dog, we would ask that you keep it either on a short lead or a canicross type harness and under control at all times. This is for the safety of animals and people alike and whilst we wish this event to be as inclusive as possible not everybody loves dogs.
Results
The results will be published on the Cancer United website, it may not be possible for us to get them published until the charity’s office opens on Monday. We will publish them as soon as possible
Finally, we are looking forward to seeing you all on the day for a fantastic day of running.
Best wishes from
The OUTRUNCANCER Team
